《好萊塢百年百部經典電影》是由Gary Smith執導紀錄片。
為了紀念美國電影業的第一個百年慶典，美國電影協會著手整理此部“好萊塢百年百部經典電影”?？涨暗膽c典，從美國電影協會推薦的四百多部影片中挑選而出，集中了全美國一百多個電影發行公司的作品。最初美國新聞網CBS在黃金時間通過廣播預告參選節目，使得此次慶典具有廣度和重要性。
該片于1998年6月16日美國上映。

美國電影協會(American Film Institute ，AFI)1998年6月16日發布 《AFI 100部最偉大的美國電影》(AFI's 100 Greatest Movies)名單。該名單由美國電影界的名流選出，這些人士包括藝術家，影評家和歷史專家，達1500余人，候選電影有四百部。
